About the Fire Department

The Coffeyville Fire Department has evolved from its original purpose of fighting fires to its current task of providing a much broader level of emergency services to the public. Over the years, this expanded role along with a variety of community risk reduction activities and initiatives, has allowed the department to demonstrate exceptional community value.

The Fire Department serves a resident population of over 10,000 people covering 9.2 square miles. In addition to the City of Coffeyville, the department also provides emergency responses throughout the county through automatic and mutual aid agreements with surrounding jurisdictions.

The Coffeyville Fire Department is one of 11 Regional Hazmat Teams in Kansas and is responsible for 12 counties. There are 19 fire personnel on staff and 16 are Hazmat Technician certified. The department also has technicians in the areas of confined space, high angle, trench, structural collapse, electric vehicle response, child passenger safety and swift water rescue. We currently have 16 Emergency Medical Technicians on staff.

Recent Accomplishments

  • Lowered ISO rating to a 3 in September of 2011. With over 1,184 fire departments in the State of Kansas, only 8 departments have a better rating.
  • Received a rating of 88% for overall fire service quality from a public survey.
