Q & A From the City Manager Regarding Tyson Poultry Processing Facility

November 20, 2017

Tyson Foods has announced plans to construct a fresh-pack poultry processing plant in Tennessee. According to Trisha Purdon, Montgomery County Action Council (MCAC) Executor Director, this announcement does not change Montgomery County’s opportunity as one of three finalists for a Tyson plant in Kansas.

“Tyson has indicated that due to the increasing demand for fresh-pack chicken products they are still interested in establishing a poultry presence in Kansas,” said Purdon. The Kansas Department of Agriculture has issued a statement saying they have been aware Tyson Foods plans included expansion projects for multiple facilities in more than one state. “This announcement was not unexpected,” said Purdon.

MCAC and the City of Coffeyville will present a final proposal to Tyson Foods at the beginning of 2018.

Coffeyville is one of three finalists in Kansas for the Tyson poultry processing plant. City Manager Kendal Francis has prepared a list of questions and answers to provide information to citizens about the recruitment of Tyson. The City of Coffeyville and Montgomery County Action Council will be meeting with Tyson and State of Kansas representatives and are working to refine the proposal presented to Tyson. Officials from Tyson are expected to make a site visit around the first of the year. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
