Coronavirus (COVID-19) Updates
**Parks,
Playground and/or Recreational Equipment Press Release
03.22.2020**
COFFEYVILLE - To help minimize the
spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), the City of Coffeyville has closed
the use of City playground and/or recreation equipment to the public effective
immediately. The available science suggests that the virus can live for quite a
while on surfaces, particularly plastic and stainless steel… which likely
characterizes most playground and/or recreation equipment. The City of
Coffeyville is unable to clean and disinfect the playground and/or recreation
equipment after each use.
Children are not likely to follow
the procedures needed for hygiene (washing hands, not touching face), and they
are equally unlikely to adhere to social distancing protocols.
City parks remain open and
residents can enjoy the fields, trails, and other amenities, but not playground
and/or recreation equipment. The City of Coffeyville reminds parents and children
to practice social distancing and wash their hands after any play
situation.
The City of Coffeyville maintenance team members will be taping off all playgrounds starting with our most popular parks effective immediately, and posting signage at each site alerting residents to these playground closures.
