Annual Water Distribution System Flushing Project

Beginning next Friday (7/29/2022) the City of Coffeyville Water Department will be conducting its annual flushing project on the City’s water distribution system. This flushing was recommended by the Kansas Department of Health & Environment to be conducted by the City to help maintain the best possible condition of the system and quality of water delivered to our customers. The project consists of temporarily stopping the addition of ammonia to the drinking water at the water treatment plant, beginning on Friday, July 29, 2022 which will allow the chlorine to more effectively disinfect the lines. The lines will then be flushed by opening fire hydrants in various locations around the system, beginning on Monday August 1, 2022. Although the appearance, taste, and odor may be unpleasant, the water will continue to meet KDHE requirements. The project is expected to last approximately four to five weeks, depending upon the results of the line flushing. The effects of the line flushing will begin to be seen mainly in areas north of 1st Street, and then spreading systematically across town as the flushing crews move to other areas. The inconveniences are temporary, will only affect a given area for a short time, may not affect some areas at all and are necessary to reach the long-term benefit of a safe and reliable water system. Any questions or concerns may be addressed by calling the Water Treatment Plant at 252-6150 between 7am and 3:30pm, M-F.
