1. Why do I see fire hydrants running?

We test hydrants annually as required by the ISO.
Fire hydrants are also used by the Water Department to flush the water lines.

2. How often are the storm sirens tested?

Storm sirens are tested the each day at noon. They are also tested annually during Severe Weather Awareness Week. Dates and times of this tornado drill are set by the National Weather Service.

3. If the storm siren in my neighborhood is not working, who do I call?

You can call the Fire Department at 620-252-6148 and we will relay the information to the Electric Department.

4. What is the City's policy for sounding the storm sirens?

The storm sirens will be sounded when a tornado is indicated on radar, southern Montgomery county is placed under a tornado warning or when a tornado has been sighted and confirmed by a trained weather spotter within a 30 mile radius of Coffeyville and is traveling in a path toward the City.

An all-clear siren is not sounded. This alleviates the confusion for citizens wondering if it is another warning or an all-clear signal.

Yes the public shelters are located at:
CRMC, 4th & Buckeye,  Handicap Accessible (basement)
Community Elementary ,4th & Cline,  Handicap Accessible (the multipurpose room)
Field Kindley, 1110 W. 8th (enter through the North side gymnasium doors)
First Church of God, 5th & Cline
St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 506 W. 9th

6. How do I dispose of hazardous waste materials?

There is a Household Chemical and Waste Division that serves Montgomery County residents. It is open on the 3rd Wednesday of each month and located at 114 N. Wald in Independence. Contact 620-331-4139 for more information. Annually, Household Waste Division will hold a Household Hazardous Waste Collection day in Coffeyville.

7. What type of fire extinguisher do I need for my Home?

The best all purpose extinguisher is the combination “ABC extinguisher.” ABC is the acronym for an extinguisher certified for A, B and C fires. A is for common fuels like wood and paper, B is for flammable liquids and C is for energized electrical fires.

8. I live outside the City limits, will CFD respond to my house?

If you live within five miles of City Hall,102 W. 7th,  or are located within the City’s Industrial Park, the Fire Department will be the first responder to a fire at your location if you have a fire contract.  CFD will also respond outside the city limits when requested for mutual aid.

9. What is the City of Coffeyville's ISO rating?

The ISO rating for the City of Coffeyville is 3.

10. Are fire pits allowed in the City limits?

Yes, free standing fire pits are allowed.
